In this case study we plan to use the information provided in Josh Spaulding’s excellent report $5 Mini Site Formula and the awesome video adaptation by Mark Mason. So before we begin, make sure you download the report and check out the $5 Formula Video so that you have an idea of what we are following and aiming for.
Update: Here are the other parts of the case study so far:
$5 A Day Adsense Site: Case Study – Part 1 – This Part
$5 A Day Adsense Site: Case Study – Part 2
$5 A Day Adsense Site: Case Study – Part 3
$5 A Day Adsense Site: Case Study – Part 4
The basic principle is to build a niche website and use article marketing to drive traffic to the site in order to make approx $5 per day in adsense revenue.
Josh’s formula is a guide. Occasionally sites will not perform as well as $5 per day and sometimes they will far exceed that. This live study will hopefully be successful but is subject to sabotage as I will be revealing all my keywords before they are written in articles and published…. so please if you want to benefit from this…. DO NOT SABOTAGE…. pretty please
Step 1 – Find a niche
What on earth do we write about? There are literally thousands of niches available but we want one that hopefully pays over a $1 per click…. So to find one I am heading over to Spyfu.com. Spyfu will tell us what the advertiser is paying Google for every click that an ad related to a certain keyword. This means a little guess work is needed on our part as Google obviously take a cut of the revenue and only pay you part. Ideally you need to find a niche (and it can be almost any niche) that costs the advertiser over $1 per day…. Right back to niche finding….
Okay back now, it’s weird blogging as I do this research!
After trying out a few subjects and doing a quick cross check with Google Keyword Tool, to make sure there are plenty of longtail keywords, I have settled with the main niche of Acne. Take a look at the screen shots below to see the projected advertiser cost per click.
In this case we are looking at rough range of $0.90-$8.00 so I would like to say on average that we should be able to get $1 per click from this niche but that is just my guess.
Step 2 – Get 26 Keywords
This step is very important and you could spend all day analyzing and reviewing pages but the formula gives a simple and quick approach that is highly successful. I make a table containing 26-30 3 or more word keyphrases (long tail keywords) within the range of 1500-2500 searches per month, all with a top 10 pagerank average of less than 3 and for this experiment I will also show their search numbers.
As these keywords will all be used for articles you want keyphrases that sound like people searching for them would like to read an article on the subject. How To’s and general guides work well.
Below you will see my table of keywords found using Google Keyword Tool and Google Insights. I used SEO for Firefox to display the page ranks for the top 10 Google search results. To get the average just add them together and divide by 10.
After doing this research I’m pretty happy with the results of this case study so far. Acne seems like a good niche and should be fairly easy to get high quality articles for and I have at least 30 decent keyphrase possibilities.
In Part 2 of this case study I am going to set up the site, choose keyphrases for the site and for articles and start getting the articles together.

Hmmm, this one looks pretty interesting but too bad I am already banned from adsense.. btw, this is the first time I have seen this blog w/ a new theme w/c really looks awesome……
Hey Melvin,
That’s not a problem…. People have been using this method for affiliate products too. I was going to talk about that in the closing notes… after we have a resounding success with this one!! Fingers crossed!
Thanks for the theme appreciation too
… It’s still nowhere near finished yet but I will have to do it one small bit at a time…
an interesting approach; Spyfu IS super useful for finding good keywords and the 1500 per month is a fine minimum as well. ( I look at minimum of 50 or so per day) HOWEVER your competition ‘filtering’ I am intrigued with.
I give little heed to PR (External Pagerank and Serps have a questionable link imho). What I normally look at is the following:
Number of search results for query (<100k is sweet)
Number of search results for query with keyword in URL (<10k is again the sweet spot)
Number of Backlinks on avg the sites have. (I then do a link analysis on how many of those has the correct anchor text but thats later)
Though very interested in later steps man; want to see how you tackle link building in 7 days as well.
Donaces last blog post..Beware the smiling man
Yeah this keyword research is definitely a quick and dirty approach… and for all I know Josh Spaulding invested it.
Since being an active member of his forum I have seen countless people (including me) question it and his main answer is that it just works and that;s that.
. It only seems to work really well for long tail keywords but it allows you to get results supper quick.
The idea is that Google will assign pagerank based on backlinks etc etc. Although pagerank on a page to page outlook means nothing as an overall average it gives you a very quick insight into the competition you are facing.
Also forgot to mention I usually pick an keyword rich domain name so all interested to see how you decide which keyword you make your primary one and why
Donaces last blog post..Beware the smiling man
Yes this will be important too…. Picking the main keyword is one bit I have not been paying much attention too with some of my other sites BUT I should have been and will do with this one.
Love the new site. I just went right to the meat of the text and almost missed the new header. I’ve dabbled with the info so I haven’t quite reached $5/day, but with dabbling I have averaged $2 so not bad.
Looking forward to following the study. Also for the person that was banned from Adsense there are other programs that are similar (such as Chitika) and affiliate programs.
Hey CD Rates (Chris right?). Thanks for coming by.
Yeah I love this formula…. I’m sitting in a car on the way to Pennsylvania right now trying to finish the next part of the case study.
Great… I’m writing the next part of the case study now.
I opted in and watched the video … I think it was very interesting and pointed out some very good points. I had some of the “well that should have been obvious but I needed someone to throw it in my face” types of realizations. I am going to try it myself, but since I have so many incomplete projects, and don’t want to create entire new sites, II might try it with a few little twists. I have a pattern in mind … lets see how it goes. If I manage to carry through with it maybe I can post my own little case study!
Annas last blog post..Changing my Mind about StomperNet
Anna that would be awesome. I really like the method and he video, hence the reason for the case study… I just hope it works well so that you and the other readers can see that it does work.
What i dont get is how does a keyword/keyphrase have a page rank??
I thought page rank was all about the sites quality, popularity and relevance?
Damians last blog post..Wealthy Affiliate Trial | What You MUST Know Before You Sign Up For The $1 Trial
As Anna said below we are looking at the pagerank of the pages that show up in Google for the phrase. Google assigns every page on the internet a pagerank from 0-10.
No one said keywords or phrases had page rank … which sentence are you referring to?
If you mean the chart above, he is referring to the page ranks of the websites which come up in the top results when a certain keyword is searched for.

Hey Forest_Parks
I am a newbie to internet marketing and I’m not having loads of luck just now, but I’m learning. I’m amaised how much information can be found without it costing a cent. I am going to take a look at this $5 method and give it a go.
Thanks for sharing this wicked info.
Nick
Hey Nick,
No problem. It can take a while to see some success and everyone has their own way of doing things so it’s worth digesting a lot of info at first. One thing I would say is that when you find a method you like stick with it anddont let shiny things take you away from your main goal.

I started reading this post, Part 1, about twelve hours ago. I watched the video and downloaded the $5 Mini Site Formula and got completely sidetracked with what I learned. I spent the entire day researching keywords and building another niche AdSense site. I’m very excited about keyword research. I also bought the Niche AdSense Themes For WordPress Package. Time to start getting serious about these niche sites. Great post, I’ll read the other parts next.

Wow Brian,
I know exactly how this happens too as I have done this many times myself! These sites are a great way to make niche sites and if they start performing really well they can just be built upon and made bigger and better.
Good luck and don’t hesitate to ask any questions.
Thanks,
Forest.
Great idea for a case study. Who wouldn’t want to earn an extra $5 everyday? This kind of system can easily be used to create a large network of mini niche sites. That can add up to a lot of money. For even more success, it is a good idea to choose niches which have strong affiliate products to promote as well.
Thanks…. Affiliate products are definitely an option with this method and you dont have to pay attention to click price, just producing traffic.
