Big Ben Patton's Place To Become…

Posted on 18. Feb, 2009 by in News

This is just a quick post about the future of Big Ben Patton’s Place.

For some time now I have been wanting to move this blog forward by making more of an impact and hopefully becoming a more helpful resource to bloggers of all levels.

The name of a website is always very important. I have managed to build up a great bunch of readers and hopefully show plenty of personality on my blog by being branded by my name but this feels like it has been holding me back and in some way limiting my potential audience.

I am working out the steps needed now to 301 redirect this URL to…. wait for it…..

RealBloggingTips.com.

Hopefully by rebranding I can appeal to a wider audience but still keep my core readers and grow on the great thing that I already have.

So the question is….. What do you think of this move?

That’s interesting to hear Ben. I think that the domain name that you have chosen is very good. It’s has some pretty good potential to allow you to get good SEO rankings and other branding opportunities.

Be sure to let us all know how it goes.

I think thats a great move, the name will allow people to know your site and the domain name is a very important thing. Plus it will help you rank better SEO wise

    Good stuff, Ben!

I say move forward with gusto! You have the ability to deliver real blogging tips, so that is a perfect name for branding and getting the point across.

I think the personal site names are great for personality marketing as my man Joe puts it and building your individual brand awareness. Now you can free that domain up for some other stuff that I am sure you have planned.

    Get it!!!!

As we always say, niche niche nice! :) Anyways, then, is benjaminpatton.com going away for good? Or are you going to just maintain it as a personal blog?

  5. Justin Edwards 19 February 2009 at 4:26 am #

That’s a great domain Ben! It would really help you to rank better on SEO!

And benjaminpatton.com? For your own personal blog? Or redirecting to the new domain?

  6. Beijinger 19 February 2009 at 4:32 am #

The domain name you have chosen is really awesome, otherwise I would suggest that you stay with current domain as it has already created a brand for you, you have to work quite hard to take the new domain up to this level, all the best for you!

  7. Big Ben Patton 19 February 2009 at 9:20 am #

If I get it right…. This domain will still work but will 301 redirect to the new domain.

After a few months Google will pass all the link juice and PR over to the new domain, or that is how it should work!

  8. Michael Henry 19 February 2009 at 11:37 pm #

Why not just keep the your name domain as a base domain then set the new one as an alias. If you’re using Godaddy you can also set a redirect under the domain manager.

I did consider this but I think actually changing the root will be better over time. I am thinking of getting more authors and about the growth of this site in general.

  9. Michael Henry 19 February 2009 at 11:38 pm #

Of course, this site went down for a while and you might not be the real ben patton any more :)

    • Big Ben Patton 22 February 2009 at 1:06 pm #

He He, I could send you a pic of me typing away if you like?

      • Jake Stone 1 March 2009 at 4:59 am #

Nah, you have to make it a video. Real time video that starts from writing and foes all the way to posting and showing the post over here.

I would love to see this done by those gurus who say that they put only about half an hour to managing some given blog etc.

So, think about it, I’d say your video production value was comparable to most Youtube videos out there, so you have everything to gain. Also you might be able to create some buzz…

I think this is mainly for the keyword in the domain, actually there is a big debate weather to use a brand name or keyword in the domain, google still gives some value to the domain keyword and searcher may click more those keyword domains as well, all the best for you, Benjamin.

    • Big Ben Patton 22 February 2009 at 1:07 pm #

I personally think Real Blogging Tips will work as a brand and a keyword so both bases are covered.

  11. Melvin 21 February 2009 at 11:18 pm #

dude, the move is good and it’ll be just fine… just make sure you do the redirect properly…

  12. Ajith from Blog Money 23 February 2009 at 5:49 am #

Very nice domain name that can readily be optimized for SE. Hope this doesn’t make other blogging tips sites sound ‘unreal’ :)

Good luck with your new domain Ben.

    • Big Ben Patton 1 March 2009 at 11:29 pm #

Ha Ha, well I will try and keep things the same here for the most part… just a little upgrade IMHO..

  13. Donace | The Nexus 24 February 2009 at 4:47 pm #

    1) SEO wise; yes PR will pass but case studies dotted about show that SERP rankings never hit the high note they were are unless you set out a new SEO campaign.

    2) I would personally stick with your current domain name; because it creates a more personal connection (a vital point in trust marketing).

    3) Use RBT as a ‘quick-fire’ such as wp-recipes.com where you collate the best Blogging Tips from other bloggers amended with your view / opinion etc.

Bonus of this will method = easier to ‘SEO’, good interaction form get go and a good discussion platform.

  14. Enkay Blog 24 February 2009 at 5:58 pm #

Hey Ben! That sounds like a really good domain name that will work well with people being able to remember the domain as well as really good for SEO purposes and I’m sure your readers will follow.

  15. Tom - The Home Business Archive 25 February 2009 at 9:49 am #

Good name for a blog! I think you will get some SEO benefits by changing the domain name.

    • Jake Stone 1 March 2009 at 5:35 am #

That’s for sure, domain still carries huge benefits. My blog is not about making fake money, but now that the site is new the traffic from engines is all about counterfeit money.

      • Stu from Toronto Maid Services 16 March 2009 at 7:40 pm #

Jake – I have a site with a domain name that (unintentionally) carries some keywords that aren’t relevant to the site itself.

I see the same thing you do – search engine traffic for keywords that are in the domain name.

        • Jake Stone 17 March 2009 at 2:18 am #

Well Stu, I believe I know what your unintentional visitors might be looking for, if the domain you are referring to is this citywidemaid. Let’s leave it to that as this blog is not R-rated.

  16. Best Underwater Digital Camera Reviews 1 March 2009 at 1:28 am #

Interesting choice – the new domain will be better for rankings I guess but you will lose some of the authority that this domain has – better to change earlier than later though I guess

  17. Rahul Jadhav 1 March 2009 at 1:08 pm #

Its a good move. The address that you have choosen is good. All the best

  18. Normal Joe 2 March 2009 at 6:13 am #

I like the name, not sure I like the idea of switching this blog over to that name though. But, as you know, I’m a fan of the personal touch lol. I think the name and concept behind the blog is dope and will be fine, I’d just like to see you keep a personal spot online man.

Alot of peeps may want to hear from you, but may not be all that interested in blogging tips lol.

We may just want to know what’s going on with Big Ben online, what he’s working on, what’s up in ya life, etc…

Either way, whatever you do man you know you got my support so, pick your course, bang it out, and make it happen.

    • forest_parks 19 March 2009 at 7:44 pm #

      Hey Joe,

I’ve taken Management here now… Hopefully Ben will still be visiting every now and then :) …. And I will be sure to keep everyone informed of what he is up to… I know he does have a new project in the works but it’s a very different niche.

  19. Deutschland Spot 12 March 2009 at 2:15 pm #

Yeah, sounds great. It will boost your ranking. Good luck and keep us updated.

As far as I’m concerned – What matters online these days is the domain name choice. The domain name you have chosen is really awesome, otherwise I would suggest that you stay with current domain as it has already created a brand for you, you have to work quite hard to take the new domain up to this level, all the best for you!

Domain name is not as important as quality content. Lots of business run a blog related to there company and run successful blogs on a sub domain or sub folder. I think you just need to come up with a clever way to market the website and drive traffic.

      • forest_parks 19 March 2009 at 7:45 pm #

Thanks Guys, This is Forest…. The new manager of this blog… I really do plan on keeping the quality of the content as high as I can.

  21. Online Marketing Blog 13 March 2009 at 11:36 pm #

Oh wow i just noticed the url has already changed – i cam here from a bookmark and it made no difference.

  22. Stu from Toronto Maid Services 16 March 2009 at 7:38 pm #

I think the domain name is more of a branding thing than an SEO thing.

The thing I like about your new domain name is that it’s easy to remember, and it tells people what the site is about.

    • forest_parks 19 March 2009 at 7:47 pm #

Thanks very much. I have taken over this blog, but Ben was the brains behind the rebrand. We will miss him dearly.

  23. Olga Betrieb from sicher Kaufen und Verkaufen 19 March 2009 at 7:50 am #

I think the move was a really good idea. I think the new name is a lot more generic and tells the reader exaclty what to expect when they click on your website – I like that.

    • forest_parks 19 March 2009 at 7:47 pm #

Thanks, please let me know if you want any tips to be blogged about.

  24. Melody 19 March 2009 at 12:45 pm #

Wow, I never really thought of that technique before. Especially since my domain name or rather logo has capitals in it..

    • forest_parks 19 March 2009 at 7:48 pm #

      Hey Melody,

I have a post coming up showing you how to move and redirect a blog. So if you want to do it you will know how very soon.

  25. Pozycjonowanie Poznan 9 April 2009 at 6:53 am #

I was a little sceptic at first but so far it turns out to work great. Keep up the good work forest!

  26. Webspace 8 July 2011 at 7:39 pm #

Yeah, sounds great. It will boost your ranking. Good luck and keep us updated.
