I have been considering writing an ebook for a very long time but have been finding excuses, putting it off for other work and just in the long run, not doing it!
In November Ruth from the excellent blog Web Career Girl set herself a challenge to write 50,000 words, and guess what, she did it and with a little time to spare.
Part of that 50k word goal was to outline and lay down the first drafts for 4 ebooks that she will be using for various projects. 4 ebooks in 1 month! That is quite an achievement!
I’m sure like me you would love to complete even just one Ebook in a month so drawing on her experience Ruth has put together an absolutely excellent and completely free report detailing how you can write that ebook that you have been putting off.

Writing one or more ebooks is something I would like to do more of. That is till I achieve my goal of writing my own book. That may be a bit off, but it is good to have a goal to work toward.

Meh, I think eBooks are a bit overrated. I’ve authored 50 page eBooks in less than 24 hours. It’s more a sense of having competent writing abilities than setting time aside or “getting motivated” to do something with your spare time. While this is certainly advice worth taking, I wouldn’t motivate anyone and everyone to write books

If you think they are overrated then it’s probably not a good idea to be writing an ebook yourself… That means you are willingly supplying underrated content to your consumers… And that’s not cool!
50 pages in 24 hours is particularly fast and I would bet that most folks couldn’t achieve such things, it’s unlikely I could and if you are going to write something of value then I think often the research and editing will take longer than the 24 hours you say it takes you to write a book.
Saying ebooks is overrated is like saying books are overrated…. Basically some are and some are not, I would say about 5% of the ebooks I have paid for have been worth it…. Freebies, well they are free so even if you learn one small thing they are worthwhile, you can’t really overrate a freebie!
No writing ebooks isn’t for everyone.
Last time you left a similar comment here was in relation to Michelle’s free ebook too so I guess you really don’t like em! Well Michelle’s book motivated a huge amount of people to go out and actually start selling websites, she got people off their butt, gave them the basic tools and motivated them to start taking action! That is nothing but good and is great value as far as I am concerned.

I just wrote a ebook that I had been wanting to write for 4 mnths..lol
The hardest part was just starting, once I was into it I got it done pretty quick.

What do you plan to do with the book?
Many of us have aspirations of writing an ebook or even an actual book, but it is easier said than done. It is one thing to be able to write that much content, but it is another thing to be able to compile that all together as something presentable.

I have had aspirations in the past to create an ebook, but it is tough to get motivated for. At the beginning it all seems like so much work to prepare. One of these days I will have to get off my ass and see what I can come up with. I have good knowledge to share, but my design & presentation skills are lacking.
Seems to me like it would be best just to take it small steps at a time, create an ebook folder on your desktop, and when you get some ideas save it all in that one older, and when you get inspired enough you’ll have a decent base to work off from.

I’m not sure personally what I would write the book for yet…
It is not easy to write a book or e-book. But writing 4 e-books a month? you would have to be a walking encyclopedia to do it! I could imagine writing an e-book about something familiar to me, but 4 a month? Too big project for me.
I would find it very hard but some people are just born to write!
That’s very true. One of my friends carries a pad and pen everywhere and whenever he’s bored, he just starts writing! And it’s quite good too. He comes up with these long verses, stories, whatever he can think of, and they all make sense too.

This is a great report, thanks for sharing it. Its always hard coming up with an idea on what to write, but once you start writing ideas come to you and it becomes easier.

Everything is normal with you…nothing wrong in planning and not materializing it. A simple reason could be that you start writing and make modifications every now and then. You might want to to the best and which is why its taking you unlimited time to complete any project.
While this is certainly advice worth taking, I wouldn’t motivate anyone and everyone to write books.

I always wanted to write an e-book but an incident has put me off it. I was on another forum and a bloke was selling an ebook for $10, loads of people were buying it and then the orignal author pitched up. He had been giving it away for free on his site. This other bloke downloaded and sold it.
Same as plagiarism, it is rife on the internet and many authors do not check on their work so the culprits are getting away with it.
You kind of have to ignore this and just go for it I think…. People plagiarize my sites all the time and sometimes I am not successful in getting them to remove the content

Thanks for the summary and your take on the seminar. As one of the beginners at 30DC Coming Home, I found it a great mix between the technical skills, marketing, running a business, photography and video composition, SEO, current “best practice”, outsourcing and lots of examples of what can be achieved. Internet marketing brings these elements together and the seminar did a great job of presenting the jigsaw of skills needed to be successful.
