Are you looking to make it over the next blogging milestone sooner rather than later? Have you tried everything? Try this magic blogging pill…
By setting a goal for your blog you set out to measure its progress. Offer a reward upon reaching the said goal. This promotes things two fold. Essentially you are showing that you want the blog to be more than it is and that you enjoy the sense of community which a blog can give its readers versus a static website. By offering a reward for this growth past the said milestone you are furthering this while also motivating your readers to participate in the growth of you blog. This is a win win situation. And these are the types of situations that the most successful blogs in all of the web create and take advantage of daily.
Competitions generally are the hottest way to create pr for your blog and your blog within your niche. While it usually takes at least two blogs to compete I am sure their are a few clever souls out there that could engineer a situation or two which would only need one, for us mundanes though lets stick with something like the gary conn v john cow. While the authors are friends and belong to the same niche and even cater to the same sub niche by making a competition with prizes for their readers and crossover readers they are automatically winning when it gets to the bottom line. Successful competitions are not impossible to pull off but do require more than flying by the seat of your pants while posting. Its best to get the most out of your posts as well as your competitors after all you are sharing your resources to basically and essentially better each other and establish a rematch like so many of the most famous boxing matches. Often time more than not these contestants are friends otherwise. I highly recommend you try this out, but start small and short so your not to far out on a limb the first time you make a run at this.
Contests are the latest and greatest fad in the blogosphere. Want to know the secret why? THEY WORK. While you should really put an effort into making your contest as hoop jumping free as you can, you should also focus on what your goal is. Generally speaking exposure for your blog to people who may already be interested but just not familiar and general limited popularity. Prize quality will help you out a lot and as I have previously stated in other posts you should take your time and carefully asses any targets which could possibly provide beneficial prize material to your readers that is relevant to your niche and essentially what your readers wants. For example if you give away tulips on a rose lovers website you may not see a lot of return visitors. A little over simplified but you get the point. Make sure you are able to take the time to promote your site as much as possible as well as your contest, because relying on your contestants is not in their own best interest in winning the prizes. You must absolutely provide them a reason to promote any more than they have to. I used a points reward system for methods that most bloggers usually do not employ. I am sure their are faster, lighter and better methods to raising the level of success which your contest could possibly have, but over all you must plan these things out into the smallest details possible. Partnerships which cross promote also work, but again reciprocity is the word. Learn it. Live it and expect it here in the blogosphere.

as much as i am sick of blogging competitions, they do work. I will most likely host one or two when Blogging Idol starts up soon.

Yeah, blog competitions, contests and all that stuff works wonders. I have never done one personally, will I ever? Not sure…but, I know they do work and do wonders for traffic and backlinks.
