How To Raise Your Alexa Ranking (in a cool way)

Posted on 28. Mar, 2011 by in Blogging, Page Rank Related

Yet another little “deviant” tatic from Mitch today. In my time as a blogger and innovative Internet Entrepreneur I have found a number of different ways to do things. Now for those of you who don’t know what an Alexa ranking is, an Alexa ranking is a global ranking system which keeps track of all the top websites in the world. For instance Google has an Alexa ranking of, yes you guess it, 1. Facebook has an alexa rank of 2 and YouTube has an Alexa ranking of 3. The highest I have been able to get one of my websites on the Alexa ranking system is around 70,000 globally and that’s another thing. Alexa has both, global and local ranks which you can rank for.

So what’s the big deal about getting a really high Alexa ranking apart from bragging rights amongst the who’s who of the IM (internet marketing) industry, well in some circles people believe that your Alexa ranking is just one of the many attributes that Google looks for when ranking your website, it’s also another backlink when you think about it and everything counts right! So how does it work?

Alexa, which is now owned by Amazon, while being the authority in web ranking, doesn’t really get much data to play with, realistically when you think about it. There are over 3.4 billion people online (growing daily) literally half of the worlds population online and of those people online, I would estimate that at maximum around 10% of them would have this installed. Alexa ranks your website based on people visiting it who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Yep, you guessed it. So litrerally less that 10% of the people who visit your website, are contributing to the rank of your website. What if you could get every single person who visits your website to send that data back to Alexa and increase your Alexa ranking effortlessly. This is not a black hat strategy by any means, but rather a way to help Alexa gather more data and increase the accuracy of their rankings.   As a great side benefit, this also helps your site’s Alexa ranking, allowing you to better dominate those keywords you’re going for with Google.

How to Raise Your Alexa Rankings

The way to do this is easy, all you need to do is put some code in your footer.php file of your WordPress template, or if you are using something other than WordPress, you can do it very easily as well.

You are probably thinking to yourself, “Mitch, I get it, tell me what I gotta do and stop blabbering on with the theory.” – Ok, so what you need to do is simply past the following code into your footer and make sure you edit the part that says “yourwebsite.com” to your website name.

<div style=”display: none;”><a href=”http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/yourwebsite.com”><script src=”http://xslt.alexa.com/site_stats/js/s/a?url=yourwebsite.com” type=”text/javascript”></script></a></div>

A higher rank simply means you are getting more traffic to your site, than your competitors. In your customers eyes a higher rank can make the difference between you or your competitor getting the sale.
