How To Quickly And Effectively Gain Notoriety For Your Blog

Posted on 18. Jun, 2008 by in Blogging Tips

Everyone is always looking for a quick fix to jump start their blogs reputation and notoriety. It is possible and many people take advantage of these methods every day. While using social networks and viral marketing techniques will get you a few readers, generally you have to be very creative in order to attract more than just the few readers we all started out with and grew from. I have made a list of some of the best methods in all of the blogosphere today. Lets take a look at these and see if they can help you gain that edge of notoriety and popularity that so many others are already taking advantage of.

Make friends with other blogs in your niche. And I don’t mean just dropping a hello. Start out by posting comments to their posts. This is a double fold technique as the more you post the more back links to your own blog you will get usually and the blogger will see you taking an active roll in legitimate conversation on his blog. Many bloggers have a policy of you post I follow. Again this works in your favor as obviously the blog your going to be passionately posting to will also be from your niche as I mentioned earlier. Suppose this person likes your style and that you are promoting an open atmosphere on his blog which makes the conversation flow. Often times more than not this will open doors to options which will help you promote your blog through guest post options, links, ads, sponsorships, etc you get the point. Reciprocity is the word. Learn it use it and live it here in the blogosphere.

The blogosphere is not surpassed by any other industry for its ability to react to events quickly as I have mentioned in earlier articles you need to be fast if your going to be a serious blogger. Think on your feet and type even faster having the best reaction time can mean the difference between being the 300th person to report or post about an event which will gain you absolutely nothing whereas if you were in the top 5 you will gain massive attention from many places. While this may not be applicable to the viewers which you draw in with this atleast a few will be interested in your content. Try this out sometime with tools such as google news and slashdot you could be the first or second person to break something in your own words to the blogosphere. I will recommend you avoid rewriting an article you find and posting it as your own. While for some this is considered a gray area, let me stress to you to the majority of the world it is not. If you embark down this road the end results will be your own fault. Quoting and linking to the original is probably your best bet as I do here. Commenting outside of these blocks encourages discussion and promotes the community effect so many people look for in blogs these days.

One of the quickest ways to sink your ship before it even leaves the harbor is to be a complete boring sap. While some of us are this way by birth others are because they are just not putting in the effort to be interesting with the content they have chosen. As I have mentioned in earlier articles make sure you actually and really have a deep seated passion for the niche you wish to write about other wise I would highly recommend that you stick to syndication and flipping niche blogs for cash.

One thing I try to practice in my own niche is being an expert. Thats right become an expert and act like a filter for your readers only allowing the best tips, tricks and information make it to them. If you can effectively pull this off you will have your own niche within a niche carved out for years to come. After all we all need someone to look to for expert advice when we just aren’t sure what to do. And I think most of us already know to avoid the e books which claim they can do this for you. It takes a living breathing person in this case to really do a good job and leave your readers satisfied.

I like it. I agree with the fact of getting involved with other bloggers and their blog. Though there are many more I’d like to get involved with, I do find myself here quite a lot.

It must be something about the way your write…it’s filled with content, but it’s very easy to digest, so I don’t feel like I’m reading a book, more like a casual magazine, but I come away learning something new each day!

I play with the social networks a little bit, but my favorite method is simply finding the bloggers and blogs that I like and interacting with them.

I find this works out pretty good for me, as I gain some new buddies as well as a few backlinks. :) I’m always one to promote someone that has helped me, so it’s not uncommon for me to write a post about a new blog that I fell in love with, without any prompting or agreement with the blog owner…I just do it. Sometimes they find the post, sometimes they don’t….oh well….that’s just how I roll

Honestly I have to agree while social networking, bookmarks etc are essential, I think after the newness of your blogging is worn out that depending on those stats to drive your blog can be very misguiding. The whole month of June I have not used any social bookmarks, digg, su, etc mostly because I have been working my but off, but its interesting to see the difference with the contest over and no extensive social submissions.

My favorite type of blog is the one you can read with out feeling just like you said. I think most of the readers agree. Now if I can just figure out how to effectively encourage more comments I will be happy. I know sometimes the way I write especially this month as its mostly content I wrote in one or two nights before having service at the old house shut off can come off less conversational.

It is not a bad thing though as everyone needs a goal and something to improve on for me outside some site changes and updates getting my readers involved more is a big goal!

I wish my readers would comment more too! That is an ongoing battle. I just make sure I write exactly how I talk so my personality comes through. Some may say don’t do that….but I don’t care!

I want people to like my blog because they can identify and converse with me, not with another Garry Conn, or another Big Ben…or whatever. I know I’m getting off into another topic, but I see many bloggers trying to be just like their favorite blogger in how they write.

    That doesn’t work……

Yes, I learn from you all, but I can’t be you, and won’t try.

Networking is key, social networking is OK if it is focused, but too many depend on that as the end all traffic tactic, it’s not.

I am of the same mind as far as writing as who you are, unless that is your so good at the selling point that you can write effectively as acting not like yourself. I am sure for some this is very effective and allows them to step outside normal bounderies , but for me, and you it seems that just being yourself and writing works well.

This could be another post all to itself to be honest as I also notice many folks trying to emulate other bloggers, and honestly it stinks. Even if you do not read the blogger which they are copying it seems already stale when your reading someone doing a bad job at copying.

I will say this on even more of a side note. When a blogger stops relying on social networking or social devices to attract high bounce rate one time viewer majority traffic and works on pleasing the real followers they have graduated. I can already tell by the analytics I am getting for this past month while not as high as the month before I have many many more return viewers and my bounce rate is aroung 50% less.

This being said once I am back at 100% operational status in a few days I plan to still use reddit, su, and mixx on some of my bigger stuff.

For example I have a nice interview with 7 of the best blog’s I know. Including Problogger! Which I will undoubtably promote using the social aspect. As for my day to day stuff, the search engines are bringing me enough traffic that I do not have to rely on the high bounce rate traffic to keep moving forward with the blog’s goals.

I am sure this will spawn a few articles on a few different blogs :P

I think one of the ways to make your readers like your posts is to write like you are talking to them. It will even make them comment more. Talking about making friends with other blogs in your field, I haven’t been doing that but I will start doing that now.
