We are almost through our week in which I show you top to bottom and front to back how to leverage social outlets in your favor. One thing we really have not covered so far and that is none the less just as important as everything previously mentioned is simply put to carry your profile from network to network with zero deviation. I will show you how inconsistencies can start to harm your profile and your credibility.
Consistency is the grease of a hard worker. If you have five plus social profiles and all five are saying different things about how you operate and who you are or who your business is, your readers are smart enough to eventually find out. While this may not be a major breech of a readers trust, it does start that snowball effect. It is OK to cater to each network a little more than the last one but make sure you are driving the same underlying message home on each to a “T”.
While I am sure many of you ran out and signed up and added me as a friend to all those nifty social networks I bet you wrote a different profile for each, unless your like me and made one really good one and then reposted it every time. While you do not by any means have to have a duplicate profile for each making sure you are covering the same keypoints in each one can be very important from one network to the next.
Also emphasizing different parts of your profile in different networks can be advantagious as well as we all know each network generally does not warehouse the same exact types of users within them, and as such you should pay attention to these details and adjust accordingly.
Some may ask whether it is a good idea to offer a free gift in some occasions to capture leads, and to this I recommend you do not. Unless they find you or your site you should just be telling them about yourself and what it is you do and what you can do for them. If you are already offering them free crap and honestly lets not kid ourselves if you are giving it away in a social profile odds are you can not give it away otherwise. Avoid these methods as they can make you look a little shady or only out to “capture” a lead.
Instead I invite you to approach social networking more like going out with your friends for a good time on the town and sharing conversation about what you do and what you like in the mean time. If you can successfully pervey a positive attitude and still drive home your own point, IE your brand, product, blog, etc you will be ahead of the game ten fold.
I invite you to take a look at some of the most successful blogger’s and compare their sites to their social profiles. Odds are that they will be much alike and this is for good reason as when you find the formula you will not be deviating from it often and only when successful.
Keep it short, simple, to the point and not in a narritive way. As Jk Swopes says “Be Yourself.” This advice is sage and you should really be trying to push this point harder than any other in your social profile.
Simple as this. Either you are honest and to point, humble and personable, or you may enjoy some success in obscurity instead of success and friendship across the social board. Integrity and quality still reign supreme and if you honor these codes throughout your own work, you will will have loyal readers who care and commentate in return.
I am curious to see if anyone has any special methodology when setting up shop for a new social network and if you have any ideas outside what I have listed that have a larger impact on the overall goal of social networking.

Yep, very important points. Also, try to use the same picture….I have seen much recognition because people know my picture. They may not even know much about me but they say “hey, that’s that guy imwithjoe.com…I know that avatar” I’ve had people find me on various networks that way.
They’ll say they saw my pic on such and so’s site, or another network, and wanted to add me. So, make sure you use the same pics or close to them, don’t have one real pic and another cartoon…it will confuse people and they will think it’s two different people.
I agree with the free giveways on social networks, really no need. But like you say, be yourself and all will work itself out.

I have to agree with you on this one. It is hard for me, since I have a lot of blogs that cover different topics…I’m ready to start another site somewhere just saying and explaining who/what I am!
