Oh Snap! Big Shane in the house. I always love to read your comments man, they are very well thought out and thought provoking!

At any rate, you know I have the same mindset as you, build friendships not enemies or competitors. We can all get a piece and working together will make it better for everyone.

Why you gotta but me out about my eating habbits man....I didn't tell everyone that you eat bbq everyday now did I? :)

Good morning Ben, hows it going. I'm late to the comment party here, better late than never huh. This is a good post topic that has been covered before and it should be on alot more blogs than it really is.
Im not a big shot money maker but I do ok. My slant too is be real and be who you are. You're never going to please everyone nor should you try , really. I blog about what I am doing and how I am doing it in the hopes that I can be of some real help.
I don't blog from an ivory tower like so many of the a-listers.
I have it seems a somewhat weird take on the whole MMO scene. I personally choose to see other bloggers in this niche as potential best friends and collaborators and have made some good friends with this mindset. I read all over the place how cut throat it is and what not. I personally think that's a poverty mind set and this whole notion of competition implies some sort of scarcity, which just doesn't exist, there's plenty to go 'round for everyone. Yeah I wont deny that there's loads of blogger who are out for them selves and Ive been told I should keep alot of I write to myself or sell it. And there may be some truth to that. But that just isnt how I roll.
Setting good boundaries is a healthy attitude for sure bot online and off, and man I could go on in length about that. Glad you mentioned it though. The flaming link baiting has its place and purpose if done tastefully and with some respect for the other party concerned. But that bashing isnt very cool at all.
Anyhoo Im taking up alot of your real estate here.
Just wanted to drop in and say Hey. I think I came here from JK , hes a good bud of mine, and an all round great guy even if he does eat chimichangas with pine apple from a bucket

I think "Creator Of Useful Content" is the most important one on your list. If you have good content, readers will come! It may take a while but good content is key. Plus it help with SEO.

"Stickiness" is very important and we may see a post soon about how to increase your blog's stickiness factor.

And again JK Hitting the nail on the head dead on. Be yourself! It is one of the defining factors of your blog just as you say.

@Ben

The header is fantastic and "whoever" did it's awesome! And again, this was a great post. Sometimes, people are afraid to be themselves online, for fear that people may not like them or they may not be professional enough.

See...I don't brand myself as the professional guru type, so, I don't have that pressure. I'm Normal Joe...a normal guy, and that's exactly how I present myself. You know what to expect, or not :) But the thing is, you know it will be right up your alley and not over your head...

I think showing your personality, especially on your blog, is a great thing and provides that "stickiness" we all seek.

This is a great post. I especially agree with being optimistic. See the glass as half-full and your chances of achieving your goals would most certainly increase!

i am definitely not a strategic blogger. I have been naturally good at networking though. Mainly because my friendliness in offline life comes through into offline life.

I think that should be a point too. -Dont be an ass (can i say that?) when your a newbie

Great post Ben...I really don't have much to add to the list as you seem to have covered it well.

One thing I will add, that I think is probably a lot more important that people realize, is being yourself. Don't try to be the next John Chow, or John Cow, Garry Conn, or whoever, be yourself.

Let your personality show in your writing and don't take yourself so serious all the time. When you have fun, your readers have fun and feel more relaxed and part of the community.

My little two pennies :)
