This Gator's Swamp Has Gone Green

Posted on 03. Sep, 2008 by in Hosting / Host Gator

One of my own concerns in my daily life is that of the environment which I live. Suffice to say I try to do my share when applicable and affordable. This being said I am happy to announce that my hosting provider Host Gator has made the switch to GREEN. 130% GREEN. That’s right ladies and gentleman they actually go above and beyond!

Let me take this time to tell you about this exciting development. More and more businesses are realizing that going green is good not only for their image but also their bottom line. That’s right not only is it popular but it put money back into the business and economy. I am no expert on economics, but I am sure Jim will be by to say these types of projects have a wonderful impact fiscally, environmentally, and socially. Let me show you exactly what Host Gator has done to make the green switch and why you should too.

Did you know that the average server produces the same emissions as a 15 mpg SUV?

HostGator hosts over 1,300,000 websites on its shared and reseller servers. That means a lot of servers, and a lot of carbon emissions. So they asked themselves, What can we do to be part of the climate change solution? We took steps to minimize our environmental impact at the office, but still we weren’t satisfied. We then switched to 36% more efficient servers, but still we weren’t satisfied!

All of their shared and reseller servers are now 130% wind powered!

That’s right! 130%!
We’re not just neutralizing our environmental impact, we’re reversing it!

HostGator has purchased certified Renewable Energy Credits representing 130% of the electricity used to both power and cool every last one of our shared and reseller servers!

Just how big a dent in climate change does that make?
It’s the equivalent of:

  1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
  2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or
  3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
  4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year

All in all with Host Gator’s record for oustanding support, hosting solutions and price points and now the green factor their is really no reason to not be using them. As far as I can tell no one can come close to what they offer for any blogging or internet marketing solution.

I think it is great to see companies like this taking a stand for the environment.

If lots of people make little changes like this is could make a HUGE difference to the world we live in and the world we leave to our descendants.

    Great work.

Corporate responsibility is definitely great and honestly I look forward to seeing the whole industry across the board to start adopting this state of mind.

Most definitely more and more people are looking to the companies that provide them with the services and products they use to make a stand on the green issue.

As with all things in business as soon as someone figured out how to make it profitable much less cost effective it was on like donkey kong.
