In my recent post “8 Easy Steps to Move A WordPress Blog” a couple of readers said that they first needed to know how to upgrade WordPress before even attempting to move a blog…..

….. As this blog now has the name Real Blogging Tips, I thought it only apt to put together a fairly quick video to show just how easy it is to upgrade to WordPress 2.7+.

IMPORTANT: Before you attempt an install make sure you backup both your files and your mysql database just in case anything goes wrong. If you have cpanel this can be done very quickly using the Backup feature in your cpanel dashboard.

Here is the video….. any questions, comments or if you need help, just ask in the comments section.

(sorry about the IshowU watermark… I am currently testing and trying to find a decent mac screen recorder)

Upgrade to WordPress 2.7 from Forest Parks on Vimeo.

I believe there are a few plugins available that could handle the updating process but I am a firm believer that if you learn to do things manually and get your hands a little dirty you will start to understand the processes and backbone of the thing you are dealing with….. In the long run this will make you a much more efficient blogger and ease the possibility to quickly solve an issue when it arises.

I also think that from WordPress 2.7 onwards upgrade is possible at the click of a button from within this dashboard. So just carefully follow this video and then after that you should never need to do a manual upgrade again.

Have a great weekend.

2.7 is much newer than 2.2… So you should just get the latest version when you upgrade.

No permalinks will be fine, it’s just an upgrade to wordpress not the blog structure.
