Well another great week of informative posts and even a review of an upcoming blog. Hopefully everyone had a great week as we are getting closer to the close of summer here in the northern hemisphere. If not then I especially hope that this upcoming week will change the tide for you. Let’s dive right in and see what all happened this week and not just here at Big Ben Patton’s Place but across the Blogosphere.
First I just want to thank everyone for coming here every day and reading this blog. This is the fuel for my fire to keep writing even when I am not sure what to write about. Without you the reader I would be locked in that echo chamber still, and I am sure we all remember how disconcerting that is. I also want to give a shout out to Host Gator for providing top notch hosting to this blog. It has been roughly three months since I switched and honestly their is no looking back. If your host is giving you trouble I highly recommend switching to the swamp pack as that’s what I’m using.
First let us take care of our top commentators. So far this month this is where we are.
Top Commentators
- JK Swopes (12)
- EmmaB (8)
- Blog for Beginners (3)
- Nathaniel (3)
- Rajaie AlKorani (3)
- Ben (2)
- MarketLeverage (2)
- shane at make money bl… (2)
- Static (2)
- Adam – mybookdb.com (1)
I am wondering if JK is going to rule the commentator list this month as well. Keep in mind 1000 ec credits for first place at the end of the month, and a free link on my blogroll. An easy bit of PR juice huh? :p
OK moving along we are getting through these updates on the site quite nicely, and so far as you can see they are looking good. This week we have seen my newest ad’s deployed, my gravitar changed and some really awesomely rounded edges on the blog. Also the fold between the content side and sidebar side has been removed to give more of a floating feeling to match up with the rest of the updates. I have a social me section under construction and yes a few more tricks up my sleeve. Keep an eye out and see if you can spot them before anyone else.
A few very interesting articles caught my attention this week and i wanted to share them with you just in case you missed them.
Forest author of The Random Forest and Frugal Zeitgeist was mentioned in a radio broadcast in Montreal in a segment about cheap living. If you are like me you will find this quite interesting to listen to, and a very good site to read for some really great tips to better living through a more frugal method.

Our good friend Joe from http://imwithjoe.com/ has a new theme. Don’t fret though its the same Normal Joe as always just an easier to navigate and much more friendly on the eyes. Check out his new theme and his latest vblog entry outlining this next weeks goals. Good Luck Joe!
Another one of our favorite reads lately has been http://www.bloggervenue.com/ in his latest article he talks about the importance of captivating the reader, just like a newspaper. An important headline and the first few lines to summarize the story. He also points out that most readers are not fan’s of 1000 + word articles. While I am super guilty of this on a regular occasion I would like to think that my articles are sticky and bookmarkable able to be read in more than one sitting. In either case I highly recommend taking a look at this post.
I know many of us here are fans of both www.Moneybites.com and www.Thenetfool.com and as such I found this podcast to be a good listen. Max from Moneybites.com has interviewed Jim from Thenetfool.com and posted it for his readers to hear. I enjoyed the interview and I think you will too. http://www.moneybites.com/moneybites-podcast-6-talking-with-jim-from-the-net-fool
Ok now that we have a small cross section of my neighborhood of the blogosphere lets move on a little shall we.
I pretty much walked everyone through from start to success in reguards to social networking and effective use of social media and bookmarks this week. Keep in mind that quality is better than quanity just like with most things in life. The social tools laid out this week may not make or break your site, but it surely can help give you an extra boost and even pick up loyal readers along the way. A keyword you should always remember though when working with others in the blogosphere is “reciprocity”. This will take you the distance whereas in a take, take world you may not enjoy the same level of success.
This week is also setup to be quite exciting. Monday we should be taking a look at a new site that I am going to try and start using here on the blog. Don’t worry though it should only make things better. We shall see.
Here is to having a great next week, and meeting all your goals. Have a good day and keep blogging!
