Weekly Round Up
Posted on 23. May, 2008 by Benjamin Patton in Weekly Round up
Another great week! This past week we talked about affiliate marketing and adjusting your expectations to be real. I find so often people are gung ho and ready to put it to the grind stone, but after the initial but kicking they burn out not so much because it is not something they can not do, but more so because people feel like they should be making more. As you progress past this point and become comfortable with PPC campaigns with a little luck you will the numbers raise along with your experience. I can only offer one more bit of advice that everyone should know. Never give up.
We also looked at how we should lay out our adsense in our blog. I even took it a step further and shared with everyone the official way to make your ads relevant to your content. At first this was working wonderfully here for me on the front page. The rest of my pages were essentially displaying the correct content. After about three of four days it seems that my only adsense bar left on the site is acting up again and only showing content related to my last name. This is something I will be addressing for everyone in the next weeks worth of content as it is completely counter productive to have ads such as this on display for your readers if they are complete garbage.
Social networking was covered in depth; as well as, traffic generation. These are techniques that everyone should master when first starting off. While many probloggers do not directly rely upon social networking they do use it and so should you. When you first start out you may attract very loyal readers through this method. One this I will point out EGK had discovered that only wire dot com was using access to the social networks you would submit to them to spam their own junk. I did not know this and have since deactivated my account. I also was forced to change the passwords to all of the accounts I submitted. Needless to say I apologize for this to everyone. I edited the post which this was from as well to reflect this. Honestly it looks like stumble upon, digg, reddit, maybe delicious and a few others are the ones really worth working with at this point.

I also added this to the top right of the sidebar in an effort to boost rss subscriptions. I do plan to document my whole experience with my first time attending a major conference/convention. If you have any ideas for me, things I should take, places I should eat, things I should see, and questions for the people I will be meeting by all means please submit them via the contact page or by adding them to any post. This is going to be one of the most exciting events for me this year and I look forward to sharing it with everyone.
I also took the time to review a website that I thought everyone could use a dose of daily, and so far by the comments I was right. Make sure to check out the review for “Its Time For A Smile” I have visited this page every day since I found it to see a new smile and start my day off on the right foot. I have to say it is helping me get out of the house with a big ol’ smile.
I also decided to post a little bit of a divisive post regarding mac vs pc. While I would like to get a mac to see what all the fuss is about, for now I am a dedicated PC person. Both have their share of problems and at this point my experience is with of course PC’s. I think that most are willing to try out the other brand, but as it has been stated already for most of us what we need is a sub $1k computer for productivity. This is sure to remain an issue for years to come, and their is no doubt that mac has a certain cool factor over some pc’s, but at the end of the day its what gets the job done for the money spent. PC is definitely winning that battle on my home front.

I am still looking for a couple of guest posters for this month so if your interested get in touch with via my contact page. This is by far the best way to reach a new audience and bring a little extra traffic to your site. I will be posting just about this atleast once this next week. Guest posting is free and effective!
Other Noteworthy news:
Don’t forget time is running out on the Contest Extravaganza make sure you do your part to win a part of the prizes! I should be running the drawing within the first week of June. I will make sure to announce the day before hand so everyone can make an attempt to attend the live drawing which I will be doing from a meebo chat room I plan to embed into the front page just for the occasion. Unlike other contests I will be doing my best to notify the winners as we have some very nice prizes. I will use the email you have left in your comments or your website to get in touch with you if you were not at the live drawing. Good luck to everyone! The contest does officially end on the end of the last day of the month.
Also I have noticed a couple of times myself that my market leverage ad’s had stopped displaying? Has anyone else had this happen to them on their site, or noticed it on mine? I haven’t seen it lately, but I really would like to try and find out what that was all about.
I want to thank everyone for making this blog a great place to visit and discuss important blogging, internet marketing, affiliate sales, reviews, news and life.
Have a great weekend everyone!
