Most people prefer to wait on Wordpress updates until the *.*.1 release comes live. While this update is not a security update I would still recommend migrating upwards. Those of you that waited it out, 2.6 is not as flawed as most thought. That being said their are some 60 updates included in this patch which should make your life much easier. If you prefer direct download look no further than WordPress 2.6.1.
I suppose you would also like to know what 60 updates were made and just in case check that out on this page. Upgrading to 2.6.1 is completely optional at this point that is unless you can not stand staring at the upgrade now in the wp-admin dashboard. I did notice that now that I have upgraded that my wp-admin stays logged in instead of auto-logging me out every 10-30 minutes. Now let me show you how I upgrade again just in case you missed my post about instantly upgrading.
If You follow these steps below you can make the upgrade as easy as possible. I will also be adding these outstanding plug-ins to the bloggers tool box as these make the job a no brainer.

Just install these: WP-DBManager and Wordpress Instant Upgrade Plugins.

Go to Database to Back up your files.

Next deactivate your entire Plugins except WP-DB manager and Instant
Upgrade Plugins.

Next go Manage tab and Click Instant Upgrade. And start your Upgrade process!
If everything goes as it should and the version you upgrading to is stable then you are done, if you encounter any errors roll back to your backup’s for now and report what happened to the wordpress forums. For most of us though this will make the upgrade process seamless and smooth with the least amount of hassle which is the best anyone could hope for.
I hope this helps everyone out on staying up to date with their wordpress blog. If you have an easier or quicker method I am still looking to improve this process and keep everyone up to date in my bloggers toolbox.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah, I just upgraded today…but, I use a different plugin! I found one that will backup your files, your data base, disable your plugins, upgrade, re-enable your plugins, then give you links to download everything you backed up…
Takes literally about 1 minute or less!

I donno, I just did the update yesterday and for some reason now I can’t add images to my blog posts anymore. The button just went away in my WYSIWYG… so annoying

That button disapeared on me when I went from 2.5 to 2.6 I have been using the add media button since and then paste the url to image into the source box or upload an image and place it accordingly.
I miss the button however… Maybe they will bring it back.
I have yet to upgrade my WordPress yet, and after hearing what Jim said, I’m not sure if I want to yet.
I think I’ll wait just a little bit long until they have a more bug free version out. I’m sure I would have no problems with the new version, but just in case, I’ll stick with what I got for now.
